Position Type: Full-time, Contract (36-48 hours, ~$5546.00/week with OT)
Stipends: Meal ($448.00/week), lodge ($938/week)
TOTAL: $ 5,546.00

Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse will provide a full range of outpatient and emergency room care to patients including trauma, cardiac, obstetrics, psychiatric, pediatrics, neonates, emergency deliveries, and treatment of chronic illness. The Registered Nurse will work under the supervision of the Lead Clinical Nurse and will be responsible for providing adequate care to any patient that presents to the facility seeking treatment. The Registered Nurse will follow Kayenta IHS policy and procedures and interact in a professional manner with patients and coworkers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Triage patients and make appropriate referrals to Departments within the facility such as Walk-in Clinic, Eye Clinic, Dental, Diabetes Educator, Nutrition, JVN, Case Management, and Mental Health.
  • Follow federal licensing, accreditation, and regulating body standards from agencies such as The Joint Commission, CMS, DHHS, PHS, IHS, and any other agency that the facility is accountable to.
  • Receive reports from EMS over radio or phone.
  • Take assigned ambulance patients as needed.
  • Assume the role of Charge Nurse when assigned.
  • Participate in department and service unit performance and quality improvement projects.
  • Participate in Incident Command events as needed.
  • Take late nurse duties per nursing schedule or as needed Monday through Friday.
  • Maintain positive attitude and provide feedback in a professional manner.

Work Schedule:

The Supervisor at each IHS facility shall determine the specific tour of duty. The contractor shall work 100% of the contracted hours. The Contractor shall rotate into other duty sections as needed to support patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to adapt to and successfully utilize IHS information technology systems that are deemed necessary for acceptable contractor performance.
  • Must adhere to DHHS IT system security policies and procedures.

Performance Evaluation:

The Contractor’s performance will be evaluated in accordance with the standards set forth in the contract and Performance-based Matrix. Substantiated reports written by any customer dealing with patient safety, infection control, or other procedures that adversely affect patient outcome constitute a breach of contract.

Identification of Contractor:

The Contractor shall wear a government-issued contractor identification badge during performance of duty.

Management of Medical Information:

The Contractor shall manage all patient information in accordance with HIPAA standards, Privacy Act, and IHS Service Unit and/or Health Center specific policies and protocols. Chart documentation and EHR documentation: 100% percent of all patient records and other required documentation meet established IHS Medical Facility, Joint Commission, and CMS standards to include, but not limited to, timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, date, time, and signature. The Contractor shall ensure adherence to DHHS IT system security policies and procedures. The IT policies and procedures will be made available to the Contractor. The Contractor shall immediately report to the Contracting Officer or COR any information or circumstances that may violate any statute, policy, or procedure.

Information Systems Security Awareness:

The Contractor shall complete the Information Systems Security Awareness (ISSA) training within 24 hours of the start date.

Additional Requirement:

The registered nurse contractor must meet all Contractor Qualification Requirements as outlined in the job description, including but not limited to:

  • Possessing at least one year of recent Outpatient/Emergency Department RN experience as approved by the Supervisory Clinical Nurse, and knowledge and training on ICD-10.
  • Holding a current RN certification in any state.
  • Possessing a valid state driver’s license (if required by the position).
  • Holding certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC or equivalent approved by the Supervisory Clinical Nurse.
  • Meeting all health requirements, including immunization against Rubella, Mumps, Measles, and Hepatitis B series, a history of chickenpox disease or positive titer, Td within the last 5 years, documentation of receiving a TB Mantoux skin test (PPD) within the past 12 months, and signing a declination of the Hepatitis B vaccination series (if applicable).
  • Being able to read, understand, speak, and write English to effectively communicate with patients and other healthcare workers, and being respectful of the local, American Indian and Alaska Native culture.
  • Possessing basic knowledge, skills, and abilities to use a computer, including EMR/EHR capable systems.
  • Attending mandatory orientations and training specified by the government.
  • Complying with Agency Personal Identity Verification procedures identified in the contract, including fingerprinting guidelines, and providing all requested information necessary to perform Level I and Level II background checks.
  • Submitting all Human Resource application forms to the Clinical Department at least 5 days prior to beginning tour of duty, including two forms of identification.
