Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Before going in for an interview, there are questions you should familiarize yourself with. This article presents a list of ten sample questions with their probable answers to expect in your interview for a nursing job.
- Why do you want to be a nurse?
This question directly addresses your move into the nursing career. Amidst all possible careers, what is it that makes you prefer the path of nursing? This is one of the common questions that administrators like asking during a nursing interview. “I love restoring lost hope and providing comfort to the needy. Intervening in compromising health situations is my calling.” Go ahead and give a personal encounter that you had to handle a tough patient. Did they recover? What was the feeling after that? “I will live to remember your tireless efforts to save my life,” he said. “This made me realize how life was important to him. That added more meaning to nursing.”
- Tell me about yourself
This can be translated to say, why do you think you are perfect for the job? Be sure to have read what the requirements for the job were. Pick an achievement from your resume and narrate it in line with the job requirement. The possible answer can be, “I completed my nursing course and received an outstanding nursing student award for caring. I have worked as a precept nurse at ABC Hospital and received positive recommendations.”
- What do you see yourself in 10 years?
This targets at seeing if the job is good enough that you can stick with it. You need wisdom in this to avoid the insinuation that you are just there to fit into an employment gap. “I want to be the most valued nurse in your organization.”
- What do you find most fulfilling about being a nurse?
“For me, the rewards of nursing never cease. I feel good when patients improve health after my assistance.”
- What is your basic skill in nursing?
You can give your answer to this as; “my strongest skill is patient care and education. This relaxes fear and enhances improvement.”

- How do you personally go about the frustrations in nursing?
“Stress management is one of the crucial parts of being a nurse. I joined the ETC forum, which helped me on ways to manage stress.”
- According to you, what do you think is the hardest thing about being a nurse?
“One of the hardest things is copying with the tight schedule. Being alert for a continuous 10-hour shift is hard for me, but I have always learned to take daily physical exercises to help me cope with this.”
- Tell me about a time you successfully educated a patient
You can narrate a practical scenario depicting what the patient wanted from you and how you responded and the results after that.
- Describe a time when you had to persuade a patient about something
State what the issue was and if you finally managed to convince the patient.
- Tell us about your strengths and weaknesses
Focus on those that are relevant to the job offer. Include a brief narrative of the experience that made you realize your strength/weakness.
